Since the establishment of Russian Language and Literature Department of East China Normal University in 1951, it has been the standing executive office of the Chinese Russian Teaching Research Association. Zhao Yunzhong, Zhu Yisen, Feng Zengyi, Xu Zhenya, Zhang Hongyu, Cao Guowei and many other well-known professors once taught here. Professor Zhao Yunzhong and Professor Xu Zhenya won the“Pushkin Medal”and the Russian Gorky Prize respectively. The Russian Department has 4 teachers, including 1 professor, 2 associate professors. 2 teachers have doctoral degree and 1 is a PhD candidate. The department has undertaken a number of national, provincial and ministerial projects, published lots of translations, and co-edited several national and provincial teaching materials. In addition to the undergraduate teaching, the department currently has 4 master students' programs in Russian Literature, Culture and Arts, Linguistic Culture and Translation. The teachers and students have done well in many social activities such as the reception job in Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit. Besides, many students have won prizes in the National Russian Competitions. Currently, we have established the inter-university cooperation with Moscow State University of Russia, Moscow State Normal University of Russia, National University of Moscow, Belarusian State University, and Belarusian State Economic University. The graduated students worked in news agencies, government foreign affairs offices, travel agencies, and various companies.
The courses of Russian undergraduate students include Basic Russian, Advanced Russian, Basic Russian Grammar, Conversation, Audio-visual-speaking, and Reading. The extended courses include Russian Overview, History of Literary, Reading of Classical Russian Literature, Translation Practice, Newspapers, Business, and Tourism Russian. The main courses of graduate students include Modern Russian, Translation Theory and Practice, History of Russian Literature, Selected Reading of Literature, Language and Culture, Language and Intercultural Communication, Contemporary Russian Society and Culture, etc.
