On the afternoon of 29 March, 2023, Mr. Santiago Cataldo, the Consul General of Argentina in Shanghai, visited SFL of ECNU with Ms. Cao Ningyu, an officer from the Cultural and Education Department, and gave a cultural lecture to Spanish major students.

　　The SFL’s Dean Yang Yanning welcomed the Consul’s visit and hoped that he could take this opportunity to deepen the understanding of Argentina and Latin America among the students and teachers of the School. Dean Yang hoped to enhance exchanges with Argentine universities and to strengthen cooperation in culture and education, especially in language education, and to start academic exchanges at all levels.

　　Mr Cataldo said that East China Normal University was the first university he visited this year, and he was very pleased to establish cooperation with it. The Consulate General of Argentina is trying to promote exchanges and cooperation between the two countries in the fields of culture and education through more media and channels, so that more Chinese people can gain a deeper understanding of Argentina.

　　Vice Dean Wang Jing hoped to cooperate with quality universities in Argentina and expand the opportunities for ECNU’s students and teachers to exchange with renowned institutions in Argentina.

　　Xu Lingling, Director of the Spanish Language Department, introduced the development history of SFL and the present state of the Spanish major. Recently, the Spanish Department has launched a series of activities to promote the Argentine Culture Week.

　　Afterwards, Mr. Cataldo presented the winning certificates and the certificates of participation to the 2019 Spanish major students in the essay competition “Gauchos in Argentina” launched by the Consulate General of Argentina in Shanghai in the autumn of 2021.
