On the afternoon of 16 March, Dr Qiu Zhenhai, founder of the Hong Kong Centre for Globalization, the Zhenhai Club, and the Zhenhai Elite Club, and an alumnus of ECNU who majored in German in the class of 1980, gave a lecture on “World Development Trends in the UCA Era and Job Prospects for Foreign Language Graduates in the Next Decade”.
Dr Qiu received his PhD from the University of Tübingen, Germany, and has served as a special correspondent for Deutsche Welle, a commentator for Phoenix TV, a senior member of the National Institute for Strategic Studies in London, an observer at the Munich Security Conference in Germany, and a host of a branded program for Phoenix TV for ten years. He started by pointing out that the complex international situation requires foreign language speakers to be far-sighted and capable enough to make good use of the language advantage and to grasp the opportunities of the times. He then introduced two methodologies: the “Four Circles Theory” and the “Four Forces Effect”, inspiring students to position themselves on four levels: world - country - industry and enterprise - individual, and four force fields: conflict - emotional - economic - technological.
This lecture is the first one in a series of alumni lectures for the 30th anniversary of the School of Foreign Languages. The School will invite alumni who are active in the community to return to the School to offer advice on student training and professional development.
