Gao Baoquan was a famous translator and researcher of foreign literature in China, a researcher of the history of Sino-foreign literary relations, the history of translation and Sino-foreign comparative literature, an expert on Lu Xun, the first diplomat of PRC, and a distinguished alumnus of East China Normal University. He translated the classic works of Pushkin, Gorky and other famous writers into China, among which Gorky’s Sea Swallow was once selected in middle school textbooks.
On the afternoon of December 6, “Pioneer of Foreign Literature Translation and Research –Commemorating the 110th Anniversary of the Birth of Gao Baoquan and the Exhibition of Gao Baoquan’s Translation and Research Manuscripts”, organized by SFL of ECNU and the Museum of Modern Press and Publication of China, was held on the first floor of the Foreign Languages Building. The exhibition will last from December 6th to December 25th.
At the ceremony, Mr. Sun Ge donated the manuscript of Pushkin’s Ruslan and Lyudmila (Preface Poem) translated by Gao Baoquan to SFL.
This exhibition is an important carrier of the concept of “excellence in education” of the School of Foreign Languages.
