The 17th “21st Century China-Australia Cup” National English Contest for University Students sponsored by China Daily concluded in East China Normal University, Shanghai, on December 7th.
Organized by Australian Studies Centre, ECNU, the final drew contestants from 26 universities across the country to share their ideas and stories about Australia.
Li Jiaxin, a student from Beijing Foreign Studies University, won the grand prize and student Han Ming from ECNU won the first prize as well as the Award of Elegance.
Launched in 2003, the contest has become a famous nationwide English competition, enjoying great popularity both at home and abroad.
According to Yan Lu, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Foreign Languages, ECNU, the competition has not only improved students' English speaking skills, but also enhanced the understanding and friendship between Chinese and Australian people, especially among the young generation.
