On 3 June, 2023, the 28th China Daily “21st Century Cup” National English Speech Contest Shanghai Regional Final was held in SFL. Twenty-nine contestants from various universities in Shanghai competed for six places in the national final.

The theme of this competition is “My interpretation of civilization”. The jury of the competition consisted of Prof. Sun Yixue from Tongji University, Prof. Wan Jiangbo from Fudan University, Prof. Tao Qing from Shanghai Jiaotong University, Prof. Zhao Zhaoyong from East China Normal University, and Associate Prof. Gu Qiubei from Shanghai International Studies University, with Prof. Wan as the chairman of the jury, and Mr. Christian Schnepf as a questioning jury member of this year’s competition.

Li Jingyuan, 2022 Japanese major, won the first prize and will represent ECNU to participate in the national final in October, while Qiu Yutong, 2020 English major, and Jin Yuxin, 2022 Translation major, won the second prize.
