On 17-18 June 2023, the 2023 Annual Meeting of the Japan Society for Australian Studies was held at Kanagawa University in Yokohama, with a panel discussion on Australian Studies. Chen Hong and Chen Xi from the Centre for Australian Studies of East China Normal University were invited to attend the conference.

At the meeting, Professor Chen Hong presented “Australia’s Invasion Narrative and the Impact on Cultural Policy”, analyzing the formation of Australia’s extreme racist mentality and the White Australia Policy, and then analyzing Australia’s xenophobic sentiment in recent years.

With the title of “Australia’s Antarctic Strategy: Development and Challenges”, Chen Xi analyzed the major dilemmas and challenges facing Canberra’s current development and upgrading in the Antarctic field.

The Society of Australian Studies in China has long been actively engaged in exchanges and seminars with Japanese scholars in the field of Australian studies, promoting overseas exchanges and the development of Australian studies in China.
