On 26 June 2023, Li Youwen, Vice President of the Institute of Advanced Studies in Regional and Global Governance of Beijing Foreign Studies University, led a delegation from IASRGG to SFL of ECNU to investigate the Institute of Country and Regional Studies. Yan Lu, Secretary of the Party Committee of the College, Zhang Haomin, Vice President of the College, Chen Hong, Director of the Institute of Country and Regional Studies, Chen Xiaochen, Deputy Director of the Institute, Li Hui, Associate Professor of the College, Zhang Lin, Lecturer of the College, and Chen Xi, representative of doctoral students, participated in the research activities.

First of all, Yan Lu emphasized that the college hopes to integrate the existing country and regional studies with the establishment of ICRS, which should serve the country’s greatness as well as promote the construction of talents, and solve the real problems on the basis of this discipline. She hoped that the two schools would strengthen their cooperation and jointly build a regional and country academic community. Zhang Haomin said that the institute will continue to take the construction of new liberal arts as its responsibility in the future, and take “foreign language + regional countries” as the direction to create a new growth point of the discipline.

Li Yewen proposed that, as a new discipline, the growing path of regional country studies is inevitably cooperation, so as to have the vitality of development. The two sides also had an in-depth discussion on the construction path of “foreign language + regional country studies”, faculty, teaching and training, scientific research projects and other issues.

Founded in October 2016, the Institute of Advanced Studies of BFSU is a comprehensive think tank integrating scientific research, teaching, policy consulting and talent cultivation, and it is also one of the earliest research institutes dedicated to regional and country studies among foreign language institutions in China.
